These particular decorated letters are based on ‘Cloister Initials’ designed by the American printer, type designer and teacher Frederic W. Goudy (1865–1947). They were first shown in the American Type Founders Company’s American Specimen Book of Type Styles – Supplementary Catalogue (1917).
